Push. Pull. Power.

Power the "I" in BIM

Ideate BIMLink 2012 is the Autodesk® Revit® add-on that lets you access and edit Building Information Modeling (BIM) data quickly and easily to save you hours—even weeks—of valuable time. With Ideate BIMLink, you can pull data from a Revit file into user-friendly Microsoft® Excel® and push Excel data into Revit with equal ease. Ideate BIMLink was developed specifically for the Revit community by Ideate, Inc. and complements Revit® Architecture, Revit® MEP and Revit® Structure.

New in 2012 – Key Schedules

The ability to edit Key Schedules is new in Ideate BIMLink 2012. This feature makes the management of nearly endless varieties of data easy.

What Ideate BIM Link for Revit users say…

"Ideate BIMLink has immense potential in opening outside access to the Revit database. The product should help users enter model data efficiently and ward off the temptation to detach schedules from the model. I can see it being largely beneficial to project managers and other project stakeholders not proficient in Revit."
—Ishtmeet Singh, AIA, GBJ Architecture

"Although we are currently using Ideate BIMLink to allow input from principals in programming and door hardware manufacturers in hardware specs, we find this is the tip of the iceberg. We look forward to discovering the outer limits of this incredible product."
—Guy Messick, AIA, Architect, TLCD Architecture

How It Works

With Ideate BIMLink, you gain access to data that Revit hides. You can use this data externally with cost estimating, takeoff, or analysis tools. You can standardize measurements, naming conventions and parameter values for quality control purposes. And you can externalize your Revit data for editing by non-Revit users, so the project team and non-Revit using information contributors each have appropriate access to BIM data while model integrity is protected.

  • Push: Revit > Excel
Use Ideate BIMLink to get more detailed information about your Revit projects. Ideate BIMLink gives you access to Design Option and Phasing information as well as additional parameters such as Top and Bottom Constraints and Unconnected Height for Wall object and Base and Top Level elevation values for Columns. Use this data externally with cost estimating, takeoff or analysis tools. The link definition can be saved for re-use in subsequent projects

  • Push & Pull: Revit > Excel > Revit
Externalize your Revit data for editing by non-Revit users. Ideate BIMLink creates an Excel file, based on your list of parameters, along with a unique ID for either Instance- or Typebased parameters. Ideate BIMLink matches the ID within the Excel file to the Revit object and pushes any new values for the listed parameters, back into Revit. Externalize Specialty Equipment Types to populate volumes of family parameters via a Type-based Link. Externalize View or Detail Component Instances to facilitate wholesale editing of family and type names.

  • Pull: Excel > Revit
Requirements for data connectivity are very straightforward:

    • Parameter names must be in row 1 of Excel and are case sensitive.
    • The list of parameter headings in row 1 must match the definition of the Link within Ideate BIMLink.
    • The element ID must exist in column 1 and match either the Type or Instance ID of a Revit entity (though blanks are simply ignored).
    • The name of the 1st tab in Excel must match the name of the Link within Ideate BIMLink.

These simple criteria open up a world of possibilities and make it possible to start in Excel and map back into Revit.

  • Pull: Create Unplaced Rooms Objects
Room Links within Ideate BIMLink have additional functionality that permits automatic creation of new Revit entities whenever the ID field value is “NEW.” Take your space programming requirements from Excel and push into Revit to generate pre-defined Unplaced Rooms.
